The dinosaur with 500 teeth is Nigersaurus, a sauropod dinosaur that lived 110 million years ago in what is now Niger’s Sahara Desert. Nigersaurus had a wide muzzle filled with more than 500 slender teeth, which were replaced at a rapid rate of around every 14 days.

Living approximately 115 to 105 million years ago during the middle Cretaceous period, the Nigersaurus roamed the prehistoric landscapes of what is now Africa. During this era, the region was a lush environment with abundant plant life, providing ample food for herbivorous dinosaurs like the Nigersaurus.

 

Despite its fascinating dental arrangement, the Nigersaurus was not a particularly large dinosaur. It measured about 30 feet in length- modest compared to other sauropods. Its neck was also shorter and more delicate, further distinguishing it from its long-necked relatives.

 

The discovery and study of Nigersaurus have provided valuable insights into sauropod diversity and evolution. Its unique dental arrangement challenges previous assumptions about sauropod feeding habits and ecological roles.
