Despite covering more than 70% of our planet, much of the Earth’s oceans remain a mystery. As of now, scientists estimate we’ve explored less than 5% of the world’s oceans. It is even said, that we know more about outer space, than we do about oceans.
This is because the ocean is huge and its deepest parts are hard to reach. For example, the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, is nearly 7 miles down. That’s almost 37 of the world’s tallest buildings, the Burj Khalifa, stacked one on top of the other! You can submerge the tallest oint, Mt. Everest, in the Mariana Trench.
Moreover, exploring these depths is challenging due to high pressure, cold temperatures, and dark conditions. But scientists are working hard using advanced technology like deep-sea robots and submarines to uncover more about these underwater worlds. With these tools, they hope to increase our understanding of the oceans in the coming years.
