How Accurate Is DNA Identification Compared To Other Biometrics?

Biometrics means measuring parts of our body or behavior to recognize who we are. Examples are fingerprints, face shapes, and even the way we walk. Among all these methods, DNA identification is currently the most accurate. DNA is like a unique code in every person, except identical twins. It has an error rate of less than 1 in 1 billion! Imagine a huge library with 1 billion books to understand how special this is. If you randomly pick one book, DNA testing is like getting the right book every single time, with a chance of maybe making one mistake. Other methods like fingerprints are also accurate but have higher error rates. For fingerprints, the error might be around 1 in 10,000. So in our library example, it’s like picking the wrong book out of a smaller shelf of 10,000 books once. But, no method is perfect. All have some small chances of mistakes. Still, DNA is the top one right now because of its amazing accuracy. Data: ● DNA: Error rate < 1 in 1 billion. ● Fingerprints: Error rate ≈ 1 in 10,000.
