How Do Sumo Wrestlers Get So Big

Sumo wrestlers need to be big and strong to push their opponents out of the ring. To achieve this, they follow a special diet and training routine. They eat a dish called “chanko-nabe”, which is a hearty stew filled with meat, fish, vegetables, and tofu. A wrestler might eat up to 10,000 calories a day! That’s about 5 times more than an average person’s daily intake.

After eating, they take a nap. This helps their body to store more fat and grow bigger. Their training isn’t just about gaining weight though. They also do exercises to build muscle and strength.

A unique aspect of their training is that they avoid too much aerobic exercise, like running for long distances. This is because aerobic exercises burn a lot of calories and they don’t want to lose weight. Instead, their training focuses on short bursts of energy, like pushing and lifting, which help them in the ring.
