Stargazing is the practice of observing stars and other celestial bodies as a hobby. The “Constellations for Kids” poster is a perfect companion for stargazing all year round. Constellations are groups of stars that form beautiful patterns in the night sky. Watching the twinkling dots will bring the kids closer to nature, as well as nurture their interest in knowing more about outer space.

The poster serves as a guide across the vast skies, with instructions and images to find constellations like Orion, the Big Dipper, and Carina, complete with the time of the year it is best to see them. Did you know that some of the brightest stars that humans have observed are parts of famed constellations? Take the example of Canopus—the second brightest star in the sky, and one of the stars present in the Carina constellation.

Not everything within a constellation is visible to the naked eye. Deep-sky objects, like nebulae, are observed only with the aid of telescopes. Even Proxima Centauri, the star closest to the Sun, is not visible to the naked eye! Fear not, as this poster is filled with colorful images of such deep-sky objects, like the Orion Nebula and the Heart and Soul Nebulae present in the Cassiopeia constellation.

Once your kids learn to appreciate the beauty and colors of space (the universe is not cold and dark!), it is important to nourish their curious minds with more information. A QR code is available along with the poster. Scan the code to open Star Walk’s webpage, which comes with even more infographics on stars and constellations.

A vacation isn’t always long. Even a night spent watching the skies can be an escape from the usual routine for kids.
