Asteroid Bennu Samples Have Landed On Earth

asteroid Bennu

Samples from the asteroid Bennu may soon make Moon rocks and Martian soil pale in comparison. Located almost 200 million miles from Earth, Bennu is a near-Earth asteroid that flies close to our planet every six years. NASA’s OSIRIS-Rex spacecraft was the third mission to retrieve pieces of an asteroid, and the first for NASA. The previous two tasks were undertaken by Japan, which returned with a mediocre amount of asteroid sample each time. On 24th September, the spacecraft dropped off a capsule containing samples that were collected from the asteroid Bennu in October 2020.
